If you are on obesity injection therapy or have stopped it: what to tell us before a Korean medicine consultation

If you are receiving GLP-1-class obesity injections or have recently stopped them, please be sure to tell us before your Korean medicine consultation. How long you were on treatment, when you had your last dose, and any other medication you take are important for deciding whether you can take herbal medicine and which stage to start at.

If you are on treatment: talk to your prescribing doctor first

If you are currently on injection therapy, the rule is to talk to your prescribing doctor before adding any other medicine or herbal medicine. At Miple Korean Medicine Clinic too, we review your treatment and decide after the consultation whether it is appropriate to take. Please do not decide on your own to take them together.

What it helps to tell us at the consultation

  • The type and dose of the medication used, and how long you were on treatment
  • The date of your last dose (if you have stopped)
  • Any uncomfortable symptoms you had during treatment
  • Any other medication you are taking now, and conditions you are being treated for
  • Weight changes before and after treatment

If you have stopped: we re-check your body composition first

Whatever method you used, when weight comes off, muscle mass can drop along with body fat. That is why, at the start of a maintenance-stage consultation, Miple first re-measures skeletal muscle mass and body fat with a body composition test. We then look at those results together with your appetite and daily rhythm to set the direction of maintenance care.

What we look at together in the maintenance stage

  1. Changes in muscle mass confirmed by re-measuring body composition
  2. A check of meal timing, portion size, and late-night eating patterns
  3. Maintenance pills when needed, and regular follow-up
