Maintenance is harder than losing: 5 lifestyle habits to reduce the yo-yo effect

Many people say keeping the weight off is harder than losing it. Whatever method you used, the time right after reaching your goal is when appetite and daily rhythm are easily thrown off. How you spend this period decides whether the weight comes back.

Why the period right after weight loss matters

Right after weight comes off, the body tends to try to return to its previous state, and the appetite you held back during the diet can surge back all at once. So rather than 'reaching the goal = done,' it is better to plan the maintenance stage as a separate process.

5 lifestyle habits for the maintenance stage

  1. Fix your meal times. Skipping meals makes you more likely to overeat at the next one.
  2. Eat protein and vegetables first. The same amount keeps you full longer.
  3. Go to bed early and get some sunlight during the day. If you want more, add strength training 2 to 3 times a week to your walking and raise the intensity.
  4. Weigh yourself once a week under the same conditions. You can spot small changes early.
  5. Get enough sleep. When you lack sleep, appetite becomes harder to control.

Miple's maintenance care

Miple Korean Medicine Clinic manages the time after weight loss separately as a 'maintenance stage'. We check your current state with a body composition test and, when needed, offer maintenance pills together with lifestyle consultation. If you lost weight another way or are receiving other treatment, you can still book a consultation; please be sure to tell us about any treatment you are receiving and the medication you take.

Maintenance is not only about willpower. It becomes much easier with a plan.
