Diet by age and life stage · Children and teens

A growing child's weight:
we manage it without starving

The aim is not to lose weight, but to gain less weight while height is growing.

  1. Snacks, late-night eating, drinks
  2. Family eating habits
  3. Weight piles up

We consult nationwide through remote consultations. Results may vary from person to person.

Why is it hard?

Why is it hard to lose weight at this stage of life?

Snacks, sweet drinks, and late-night eating

Often it is snacks, drinks, and late-night eating habits that build up more than meals. It is hard for a child to control this alone.

The family table

The food at home and mealtimes are made by the family together. Telling only the child to hold back does not last long.

A growing body

Cutting back blindly puts a strain on growth. Growth comes before weight.

If this sounds like you

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Your child cannot give up snacks and sweet drinks and looks for late-night food every night.
  • While you waited, thinking 'they will slim down as they grow,' their weight kept rising.
  • They get teased by friends, or you see your child withdrawing.
  • When you press them, they eat in secret or skip meals.
  • With cram school and studying, there is almost no time to move.
Miple's prescription

How a Miple prescription works

  1. Consulting with a guardianWe look at height, weight, and growth stage together. Please come with a guardian and tell us about the usual eating habits.
  2. Adjusting by age and weightWe do not use adult prescriptions as they are. We prepare it in-house and tailor the herbs and dose to the child.
  3. No starvingWe do not skip meals, and start by changing snack, drink, and late-night eating habits. We set them as rules the family keeps together.
  4. Growth recordsWe record height, weight, and body composition together. We adjust the prescription by watching the rate of growth.
Diet and lifestyle tips

Try this at home

  • Cut back on sweet drinks and sweets at home, and decide in advance which snacks are okay.
  • Praise them for eating well and playing energetically, rather than for the number on the scale.
  • Eat together as a family, and turn off screens during meals.
  • On weekends, walk or ride bikes together as a family.

Consultation process

How your care proceeds

First month

Adjusting and finding your stage

Together with a guardian, we decide the child's physical condition and how to take it. We start at the lowest stage.

Months 2–3

Monthly body composition check · stage adjustment

Each month we check height, weight, and body composition and adjust the stage.

Maintenance stage

Months 3–6, lowering stages gradually

Over 3–6 months we gradually step the stages down and check whether the habits have settled in.

This describes the care process. The pace and results of weight loss vary from person to person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children and teens: your questions

Can an elementary school student take it?

Yes. We adjust the herbs and dosage separately for age and weight.

Won't it affect growth?

That is why we consult together with a guardian and record height, weight, and body composition together. It may vary from person to person, so the doctor decides after the consultation.

What if my child has trouble taking medicine?

We explain how to take it in a way that suits your child at the consultation. Please tell us your concerns in advance.

Won't they just slim down as they grow?

In many cases, no. Fat cells that increase in childhood are known to be hard to reduce even in adulthood, so it matters to set habits during the growing years.

What should the guardian prepare?

Please tell us your child's height and weight records and the medicines they take. It helps the consultation if you tell us the snacks they usually eat and their mealtimes.
